Archive: Chicago Debates Unveils Mural Along Kennedy Expressway

In June 2021, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on the unveiling of a vibrant mural by Chicago Debates, located at 1735 N. Ashland Ave. The mural, featuring colorful speech bubbles and podiums adorned with the Chicago flag’s red stars, aims to raise public awareness about the organization’s mission and impact. Supported by a decade-long partnership with Wintrust Bank, the mural showcases words like “career,” “critical thinking,” “listening,” “reasoning,” and “leadership” to highlight the skills cultivated through debate.

Executive Director Toinette Gunn emphasized the importance of amplifying the organization’s presence, stating, “We have long been Chicago’s best-kept nonprofit secret, but we don’t want to be.” The mural was displayed until June 30, 2021, serving as a testament to Chicago Debates’ commitment to empowering students through debate.
