University of Chicago Rockefeller Chapel Hosts Novice Trainer
On September 21, Chicago Debates partnered with the University of Chicago and Rockefeller Chapel to host a full-day training event for new high school debaters. Held on the university’s campus, the event welcomed over 50 students for a series of foundational workshops designed to prepare them for the upcoming debate season.
Participants rotated through three core breakout sessions focused on key debate skills: note-taking (flowing), topic analysis of this year’s intellectual property resolution, and research strategies using academic databases. University of Chicago faculty and library staff supported the instruction, offering students a glimpse into collegiate-level learning and tools.
The day concluded with a public demo debate in the historic Bond Chapel, where Varsity debaters showcased advanced argumentation skills—offering inspiration and a model for what students can achieve through debate.
We are grateful to the University of Chicago and Rockefeller Chapel and Regenstein Library for helping us equip the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and advocates.
