Stewarding the Future: A Successful Impact Showcase on Youth Development
On November 12, Chicago Debates, in partnership with the Goodman Theatre and the Chicago Learning Exchange (CLX), hosted Stewarding the Future, an impactful afternoon dedicated to celebrating youth development and out-of-school time (OST) initiatives. This event provided a valuable platform for engaging discussions around the future of youth-serving organizations, with a special focus on the funding challenges they face.
The event featured a dynamic panel discussion led by Hillary Cook, Director of Programs at CLX, alongside thought-provoking panelists including:
-
Andres Alvear, Chief Operating Officer, BUILD Chicago
-
Tyra Bullock, Associate Director of Education, Goodman Theatre
-
Jamyle Cannon, Founder and Executive Director, The Bloc
-
Susan Stanton, Executive Director, Act Now Illinois
Participants gained insight into the critical role of OST programming and the ways in which organizations like Chicago Debates are positively shaping the lives of students throughout Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The showcase highlighted the profound impact Chicago Debates has had on youth across the city, empowering them to find their voices and build critical leadership skills through competitive debate.
We also explored potential solutions to the funding challenges that many youth-focused organizations encounter. The conversation emphasized the importance of collaboration, resource-sharing, and creative approaches to sustaining impactful programming.
In addition to the panel, attendees had the opportunity to network with leaders in youth development while enjoying light refreshments. It was a valuable afternoon for building connections and advancing the shared goal of providing equitable opportunities for Chicago youth.
