Chicago Debates Takes the Stage at Goodman Theatre

On September 28, Chicago Debates had the honor of partnering with the Goodman Theatre for a special event tied to their production of Inherit the Wind. As the Theatre’s featured nonprofit partner for the production’s run (September 14–October 13), we were thrilled to spotlight the power of student voice through live debate.

Ahead of the evening’s performance, we hosted a demo debate and Q&A session in the Baskes Rotunda for Goodman patrons and members of the public. Students debated the timely topic of copyright law in the music industry—drawing a clear connection between the themes of Inherit the Wind and the importance of critical thinking, argumentation, and freedom of expression today.

Audience members engaged with our debaters during a post-debate Q&A, asking thoughtful questions about both the topic and the students’ experiences in debate. Afterward, guests made their way into the theater for the 7:30 p.m. show.

We’re grateful to the Goodman Theatre for uplifting the voices of young debaters and showcasing the real-world relevance of policy debate. Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of dialogue, performance, and community.
